Why Spring Clean Your Beauty Routine?
Spring is here, hooray! Now is the time to spring clean your beauty routine. Today is the day to tackle the mountain-high pile of skincare, make up and beauty products you may have collected over the years, I know I have!
Not sure where to start? Don't Worry, simply follow the steps below, I‘m here to help.
1. Throw out expired products.
Guilty of using skincare products past their expiration date? In fact, sometimes we aren’t even aware of how long they should should safely last us.
Check your product labels for what’s known as the Period After Opening (PAO) Symbol. It is a tiny jar with a figure indicating how many months the product will last once opened.
However some products may not have this. If that’s the case, it’s better to be safe than sorry, so throw out any suspicious products. Changes in colour, texture or smell are warning signs to look for. Never leave them without the lid on, occasionally wipe over the containers to remove any bacteria and also storing them in a cool, dry place avoiding sunlight will help too.
The Eve Taylor range I stock at Beautopia all have this symbol, but please ask me if you have any questions. As a rough guide here is how long your products should last you.
Cleanser: Up to 1 year
Moisturiser: Up to 1 year
Serum: Up to 1 year
Foundation: Up to 1 year
Concealer: Up to 1 year
Face powder: 2 years
Eyeshadow: Up to 2 years
Mascara: 3 to 6 months
Eyeliner: 6 months to 1 year
Brow pencil: 2 years
Lip products: 1 to 2 years
Perfume: 1-5 years
Nail polish: 1-2 years
All brands can differ but this should give you an idea of what to expect. You might be using products way past their expiration date unintentionally which could can cause irritation, infection or possibly an allergic reaction.
2. Clean your makeup & skincare brushes & sponges
If you do your makeup every day, you’re likely to be using makeup brushes, sponges, and other applicators on a regular basis. These applicators come in contact with your makeup products, bathroom counter, and your skin. There is a chance they will harbour bacteria and of course excess makeup.
It is recommended that you should clean your makeup brushes and sponges every single week and replace them completely every three months.
Spring cleaning is the perfect time to not only clean your makeup applicators but replace them if needed. To clean your beauty brushes and sponges, you don’t need a special cleanser. Just use a non-toxic soap or even your facial cleanser.
The Eve Taylor Cleansing Brush (aiding a more effective cleansing action by the way) is very easy to clean after use, simply rinse with hot running water then leave brush to dry on its side.
3. Choose the correct skincare products for the season
Spring cleaning is a good time to switch our skincare based on the season. If your winter moisturiser is feeling too heavy now, you may want to swap it for a lightweight lotion type formula. If your spring day moisturiser contains SPF, even better!
Since spring is associated with allergies, this may also be a good time to add in some antioxidants like Vitamin C to your skincare routine. The Eve Taylor Brightening Serum has a 15% concentration of vitamin C, brightening the skin to protect and fight the signs of ageing.
Has the harsh winter weather has left your skin feeling dull and dehydrated? A Facial is what you need. Book at Beautopia to revitalise your skin and wake it up for springtime, the Skin Brightener or the Re-hydrator Facials are perfect for this.
Skincare Tip: When spring cleaning your beauty routine, be sure to add in a sunscreen if your moisturiser doesn’t contain SPF. The Eve Taylor Daily Defence SPF 50 is easily absorbed and contains Shea Butter, Soya and Xylitol. It provides high protection from UVA and UVB rays, guarding against sun damage and premature skin ageing. It may be worn alone as a moisturiser or layered over Moisture Lotion/Cream.
4. Why not try some new products?
How many years have you stuck to the same moisturiser or make up? The same cleanser? The same eye cream? Eve Taylor Skincare kits are the perfect opportunity to try the product range. The 50ml size products are great for holidays to.
